My earliest memory of wanting to plan an event was when I was about 11 or 12. I was living in Alabama and my cousin Pattie and I were walking in the dried up creek behind our family's cabin. I specifically remember talking about the details of a Halloween party that I had conjured up in my head. That party never came to fruition because I didn't have two pretty pennies to rub together but I can recall the giddy feeling I had of hashing out the details in my head.
I'm sure most little girls think of when they'll get married and I was one of those girls. Aside from always being a dreamer, I was also always a hopeless romantic. You wouldn't find me very often without a babydoll in my arms. I always wanted to be a wife and mom.
In 2011 Rob made that dream come true by popping the question and of course I said, "YES!". Eleven [short] months later we tied the knot but the whole process, including the big day, was anything but stress-free for me. We were working with a tight budget and me being...well...me, I wanted to do everything myself. I made all the calls to the venue and vendors, dealt with all the emails, deposits, final payments, made all of our centerpieces, bouquets, favors, and the list goes on. We had somewhat of a destination wedding; we lived here in New York and got married in North Carolina so it was a whirlwind weekend to say the least. Since I didn't have an event coordinator, the day of my wedding was not spent relaxing and spending time with family and friends I only got to see a few times a year. Instead, it was spent setting up the tables and making sure all of the details that I sent so much time coming up with were laid out and exactly how I had envisioned. I remember feeling very overwhelmed, not just physically, but emotionally because I didn't get that nostalgic feeling of soaking up the last few hours of my pre-married life with the ladies I loved the most. I also felt rushed and quite frankly a hot mess because I was trying to be in a million places at once. I didn't even wash my hair; needless to say I went for a boho look with my beachy, not-washed-in-four-days hair. True story!
Aside from my love for design and all things unique and pretty, after my own wedding journey and stressful big day, coupled with the childhood memories of conjuring up events in my mind, I now hope to help other people with their special events. Whether it's a birthday party, baby or bridal shower, or what is to me, the mother of all events--your wedding!--I want to be the person I so wish I had had on my wedding day. So if it's just another set of eyes and imagination you need for helping bring your vision to life or if you need someone to help you with the whole shebang, I'd love to make your day extra special.
